1875 Sheffield Sterling Silver Indian Style Zodiac Teapot

An attractive and profusely decorated Victorian Sterling silver (925) Teapot, decorated in an Indo-Persian style with a central frieze of repousse Zodiacal Star Signs.

The rest of the body is engraved with varied patterns. The handle is made of silver. The base of the coffee pot is stamped with the Sheffield Assay marks and the date stamp for 1875. The maker’s mark is that of Henry Wilkinson & Co., of Norfolk Street, Sheffield. Condition is good with minimal marking, which is unsurprising given the thick gauge of the silver used. There is a bit of wear to the protruding cartouches of the Zodiac symbols. The central blank cartouche has a family crest of a garb (wheatsheaf between 2 wings).

Wilkinson & Co went into liquidation in 1892 and was bought by Walker & Hall.
