Product Description

A finely made Sterling silver teapot, assayed for London and dated for 1813.

Though made towards the end of the reign of King George III, the teapot is of the shallow, ornate style that would become popular during the Regency and Early Victorian period. The rose finial is beautifully detailed.

Both handle and finial are stamped separately with purity marks and the head of King George III. All of the hallmarks are very clear. The maker’s mark ‘CF’ corresponds to Charles Fox I of London, who registered in 1804.

The heraldic crest has worn slightly and is not easy to decipher. It looks to be a lamb in a thicket bush – likely, a reference to the book of Genesis, where the ram is stuck in the thicket.

The condition of the teapot is excellent, with only a minor dent around the foot.
