c1930 Boxed Trio Papier Mache Dolls from Soviet Republics

A c1930 Boxed Trio of Soviet Russian made Papier Maché Dolls that are dressed in the traditional costumes of the Republics of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine.
The 3 women are made of cloth and papier-maché and very nicely painted to give them the ethnicity of each region. The decorations on the dress are either painted on or have been sewn on. The hair which is very nicely plaited is very fine silk fibres. The condition is still very good with only a few minor blemishes and the clothes, whilst slightly soiled, keep their colours. There are no maker’s marks, but the dolls come in a box that has Russian writing on it and refers to the dolls being exhibition prize winners. The dolls were purchased by a British sailor in the 1929-1935 years as a present.
