c1895 Cased Compound Brass Microscope by Baker London

A very nice condition example of a c1895 Cased Compound Histological Microscope with Zeiss objectives and extras.

The blackened-brass tripod foot of the microscope supports the limb and stage on trunions. The body tube moves on rackwork for coarse focusing and the micrometre-screw moves the upper part of the limb for fine focusing. The rectangular stage has a U-shaped aperture and a mechanical bracket to hold specimens. A plano-concave mirror is mounted on a sliding sleeve on the lower end of the limb. The base is engraved: BAKER, 244. HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON. The eyepiece pushes into a draw tube that extends from the top of the body and a double objective changer is fitted to the nose. The mahogany case holds 2 objectives in cans. One is marked A and the other D. The objectives and eyepieces are all made by Carl Zeiss Jena (Germany). The optics appear in very good condition. The fitted case is made of mahogany and has a carrying handle. The key to the wood door is missing. There are some blank slides, lamellae and 3 small glass concave dishes. The microscope retains the near totality of its gilding and looks very attractive.
