c1885 Amelia Tessitore Gelanzè Sepia Ink Drawing of Rome

A beautiful, very finely drawing and painting in sepia or India ink of the Piazza Navona in Rome.

Piazza Navona is one of the largest and most beautiful piazza squares in Rome with three impressive fountains, including la Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi with its large obelisk at the centre. Beside it is the impressive baroque church of Sant'Agnese in Agone. In the image are people in c1900 dress taking in the surroundings, with street artists, painters and musicians, who add a lively atmosphere to the scene. The painting achieves a wonderful sense of perspective. The picture is in good condition, with a bit of spotting and has been mounted, glazed and framed recently.

The picture is signed Amelia Tessi.
Amelia Tessitore Gelanzè was born in Naples in 1866. She had the best painters in Naples as teachers. She painted street scenes and participated in several exhibitions, including an Italian one held in London in 1888.
