WWII Italian Prisoner of War Handmade Rat Trap

£130.00

A lovely piece of social history, in the form of a handmade wooden Rat Trap, by an Italian Prisoner of War during his incarceration in Britain, during WWII.
The rat trap has been cobbled together without proper tools and equipment, so looks very rustic. It takes the form of a rectangular box (possibly a candle box once), with a trap door and a device that allows for the door to slide down and close, when the rat pulls on the food inside. Its success rate would depend somewhat on the stupidity or hunger of the rat. The trap is reputed to have come from the Hazeldene POW Camp in Elburton, Plymstock, near Plymouth.
